What makes Anjos Pilates different from a large Pilates studio?

Anjos Pilates keeps class sizes small. With only six Reformers in Reformer classes and up to 15 participants in Mat Pilates classes. We do this for a specific reason. Are classes at Anjos Pilates taught in English?

Yes. Anjos Pilates classes are taught in English, creating an inclusive environment for both Lisbon's local community and international residents. We of course also host classes in Portuguese since we are in Portugal when non-English speakers need explanation in their mother tongue and if the Instructor is a Portuguese speaker.

What is the difference between Reformer Flow and Reformer Power?

Both classes provide a challenging Reformer workout, but they have different focuses.

Reformer Flow uses dynamic sequences with minimal spring changes and focuses on balance, strength, control and stability.

Reformer Power uses heavier springs and focused resistance work with an emphasis on power, endurance and strength. Hand and ankle wight are often used during Reformer Power. Reformer Power is intended for intermediate to advanced practitioners.

Choosing Your Pilates Class

How to choose your Pilates class.

Is Mat Pilates easier than Reformer Pilates?

Not necessarily. In fact, we think that some of our Mat Pilates classes are harder than our Reformer Pilates classes. At Anjos Pilates, we believe that Reformer Pilates, practiced in combination with Mat Pilates, creates the best results. Both formats include classes ranging from mobility-focused sessions to more challenging, strength-based workouts using weights. We always encourage our "Reformer-loyal" clients to try Mat Pilates and vice versa!

Which Reformer Pilates class should I choose?

The right Reformer class depends mainly on your experience and what you want from your session.

Intro to Reformer is for beginners and people getting used to the equipment.

Reformer Flow is designed for intermediate practitioners and focuses on dynamic movement, balance, strength, control and stability.

Reformer Power is for intermediate to advanced practitioners and uses heavier springs and focused resistance work to challenge strength, endurance and control.

Reformer Restore is suitable for all levels and places more emphasis on alignment, mobility, flexibility and moving with greater ease.

Which Reformer class is best if I want a gentler session?

Reformer Restore is the best option if you're looking for a more restorative Reformer class. It is suitable for all levels and focuses on alignment, mobility, flexibility and body awareness rather than simply increasing intensity.

Which Mat Pilates class should I choose?

It depends on you! We'd always recommend to start more gentle and then re-asses.

Mat Pilates Mobility
is an all-levels option focused on mobility, stability and body awareness.

Mat Pilates Flow is a beginner-to-intermediate full-body class focused on control, breath, alignment and core strength.

Mat Pilates Power is designed for intermediate to advanced practitioners and uses heavier props like weights, layered movements and longer sequences for greater intensity.
